Punishment or Discipline — the one-page difference

Hebrews 12:10 contrasts the two directly: human fathers “punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit.” Scripture quotations from the World English Bible.

The John 9 rule: Scripture never appoints you to decode a hardship. Jesus refused the backward question itself — “who sinned?” — and faced the story forward. Ask with open hands: “Father, what could this form in me — and will You stay near while it does?”

Keep for 2 a.m.: “He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities.” — Psalm 103:10
