God Is Not Punishing You Every Time Something Goes Wrong

What is true
The deepest reason the audit must die is not that your record is better than you think. It is that the punishment your record deserved has already been located — in history, at the cross. Isaiah saw it seven centuries early: “The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.”
Three steps you can take today
- Retire the sideways math. God graded this theology once, in the book of Job — and it failed. Blessings are not approval; suffering is not an invoice (Job 42:7).
- Keep the real distinction. Hebrews 12 contrasts punishment with a Father’s discipline — training aimed at your good, never payback (Hebrews 12:10–11).
- Pray it with the account open one last time — out loud if you can. Then close the book.
